No trip to Yarraville would be complete without a visit to the Sun Bookshop – tucked into the gorgeous art deco Sun Theatre building, the shop is packed with well-chosen fiction, biography, history, travel, science and crime – and a great collection of beautiful art, photography and craft books.
There is also a selection of quirky and artistic cards. The booksellers are friendly and knowledgeable and always willing to help – be it with choosing a book or wrapping it up for a special occasion. If you can’t decide what you’d like, we also sell gift vouchers.
The Sun Bookshop has been operating for 23 years and is a favourite of the locals in this vibrant inner-city village community. We keep busy with many events and book launches as well as a popular monthly bookclub.
The Younger Sun started life in December of 2007 and has rapidly established itself as part of the rich life of the Yarraville community. Just a hop, skip and a jump down the road from the delightful Sun Bookshop, we cater for the young and the young at heart. As one of the few specialist Children's bookstores in Melbourne our knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff are always on hand to offer advice and suggestions. We also have Kids and Young Adult bookclubs that meet once a month. At the Younger Sun we are always ready for that Saturday morning last-minute birthday present shop! Of course we are happy to wrap your purchases.
The Sun and Younger Sun Bookshops sit on the lands of the Bunurong people and we wish to acknowledge them as Traditional Owners. We would also like to pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities who may visit our Bookshops.
The Sun Bookshop has one step at the entrance, and is wheelchair-accessible via the Sun Theatre foyer and throughout our shop. The Younger Sun is accessible via a ramp at the entrance, and throughout our shop.
